About Kirkwood
Kirkwood is a legendary mountain destination known for its deep, dry snow and diverse terrain. Located 35 miles southwest of South Lake Tahoe, it offers a remote, authentic big-mountain experience with a laid-back, small-town feel.
Perched along the Sierra Crest at elevations from 7,800 to 9,800 feet, Kirkwood’s unique “K-Factor” delivers some of the lightest and most abundant snow in the Tahoe region. With 2,000 feet of vertical drop and over 2,300 acres, the mountain caters to everyone—from beginner groomers to advanced cliffs, cornices, and steep terrain.
In summer, Kirkwood transforms into a high-alpine playground with hiking, mountain biking, rock climbing, horseback riding, and fishing. Wildflower-filled meadows and vibrant fall aspens make it a year-round destination for outdoor adventure.
